According to Decision No. 228/QĐ-GDTC&TT dated June 26, 2024, regarding the organization of the 2024 Pickleball Coach and Referee Training Course, the Center for Physical Education and Sports (CPES) of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has organized this training course. The goal is to popularize and develop the practice of Pickleball within the community, enhance basic and advanced knowledge and skills, and increase professionalism in coaching and refereeing. The course also aims to introduce Pickleball into schools.
The training course takes place over three days (July 11-13, 2024) at the VNU Sports Complex, 02 Pham Van Dong, Cau Giay, Hanoi. The program is organized in coordination with the Federation of Pickleball Asia, attracting over 100 staff and lecturers from 42 universities, academies, colleges, and school teachers and sports center staff nationwide.
Pickleball was created in 1965 in Washington, USA. Thanks to the endorsement of billionaire Bill Gates and the participation of former top tennis players, Pickleball has become a global sports phenomenon in the past three years, with rapid development.
In Vietnam, Pickleball has only been known for a few months but has quickly attracted many players, from children to the elderly, including those with bone and joint diseases and disabilities. Pickleball is not only a popular sport but also brings numerous health benefits, such as improving cardiovascular health, enhancing joint flexibility, coordinating hand, foot, and eye movements, boosting brain health, and increasing longevity.
Ms. Tanyat Tran, former Vice President of the International Pickleball Federation, is the main expert for the training course. She has played an important role in overseeing the establishment of international rules, guiding referee and tournament director training, certifying tournaments, and approving equipment and courts.
In Vietnam in 2023, Ms. Tanyat Tran trained and coached Pickleball for institutions such as the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (August 2023), Da Lat University (September 2023), Can Tho University (December 2023), Quy Nhon University (November 2023), and Nha Trang National College of Pedagogy (December 2023). She also donated international standard training equipment such as nets, paddles, balls, and awards.
In Asia in 2023, Ms. Tanyat Tran trained and coached Pickleball in countries such as Singapore (September 2023), Malaysia (September 2023), Indonesia, and China (December 2023).
After completing the relevant procedures, VNU was recognized as a member of the Federation of Pickleball Asia (The FPA). The FPA also expressed a desire to cooperate with VNU under the leadership of PhD. Nguyen Viet Hoa and the Center for Physical Education and Sports, aiming for a more prosperous Vietnam and Asia.
