On November 4, 2023, at the Grand Hall of the Guest House of the VNU in Hoa Lac, the Physical Education and Sports Centre organized a national scientific conference with the theme “Physical Education Program Linked to the Development of Ethnic Sports and Traditional Games.” As part of the activities outlined in the Centre’s 2023 Action Plan, this event was also a significant activity within the framework of the Investment Promotion Conference of the VNU in 2023 at Hoa Lac. The conference attracted a large number of experts, scientists, leaders, and managers from state management agencies, universities, and academies nationwide.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the VNU, Nguyen Hoang Hai, stated that in the “Comprehensive Education Program for Regular Students at the VNU in Hoa Lac,” physical education subjects linked to ethnic sports are a priority for students. At this conference, the physical education program linked to the development of ethnic sports and traditional games serves as a bridge connecting the dedication and intellect of all those working in the field of physical education for students at the VNU. The contributions made at the conference and the presented papers serve as valuable resources for summarizing, developing strategies for physical education, and implementing the mission of the VNU. The results of the scientific conference are vivid evidence of the work in physical education, the preservation, and development of ethnic sports and traditional games, contributing to solutions and steps in the field of physical education and sports in schools in general.
Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoa, Director of the Centre, emphasized that to preserve and develop ethnic sports and traditional games, relevant state agencies have put forth practical principles and measures, which are specified in the Sports Law and other important projects. He highlighted the clear orientation when incorporating ethnic sports and traditional games into the physical education curriculum for students at the VNU: defining the objectives of ethnic sports and traditional games in the program; enhancing understanding of ethnic sports and traditional games; providing basic knowledge about the history, philosophical thoughts, cultural values, and fundamental principles of ethnic sports and traditional games. This helps students understand the origins, meanings, and cultures of ethnic sports and traditional games, as well as develop practical skills. Students need to be provided with appropriate methods, principles, and tools for training and improving skills in ethnic sports and traditional games.
The conference selected and presented 90 articles, which were discussed and published in the proceedings by researchers, scientists, and managers from across the country. The dedication, intellect, and creativity of scientists will lay the groundwork for the Centre for Physical Education and Sports to have a comprehensive view from practical experiences related to physical education, the preservation, and development of ethnic sports and traditional games in higher education.
The reports and opinions presented at the conference serve as references for the Centre for Physical Education and Sports and policy planners to address important issues in preserving and developing the values of ethnic sports and traditional games, not only for students at the VNU but also for students nationwide.
As part of this significant conference, on the morning of November 4, various traditional games experiences such as sack race, stick pushing, horse riding, archery, long jump, and ethnic costumes were held at the Central Park of the VNU in Hoa Lac. Additionally, the VNU’s Volleyball Tournament took place at the Sports and Physical Training Centre of the VNU in Hoa Lac as part of the 2023 VNU Sports Tournament.
